Module B ButtonTopic B2: Orienting Students to Online Technologies

Introduction
Just as students of online courses need to get acclimated to learning online, they must also get oriented to the various online technologies they may. Such orientations to the technologies involve explanations of the technology requirements, how to use the needed technologies, and how the communication tools work.

Either the instructors or their colleges may be responsible for orientating students to this technology, and it’s usually through an orientation letter, information about the course and college posted online, by way of an email to students, or during an initial chat session.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of Topic B2, you will:

  • Know the basic technology requirements that need to be considered for an online course.
  • Describe software and hardware requirements.
  • Describe other possible necessary technologies.
  • Identify the technology skills students need before taking an online course.
