Module A ButtonTopic A8: Your Role As Instructor

Introduction
As you have probably noticed in the previous topics, there are many factors influencing the effectiveness of your teaching online. Among these is awareness of your basic philosophy and style of teaching—whether face-to-face or online. It is this awareness which shapes your role as an online instructor.

This topic will help you to determine your preferred role as an online instructor, its influence on your teaching methods and ways in which these can translate into effective online teaching and learning strategies. Also examined is the impact of student expectations on your role as instructor and how these can be transformed into viable online strategies.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of Topic A8, you will:

  • Identify 4 teaching philosophies and their primary implications for teaching.
  • Identify the specific instructional role which fits your teaching philosophy.
  • Suggest 4 online strategies/techniques to support your instructional role.
  • Propose at least 3 strategies/techniques for dealing with the impact of different student expectations regarding your instructional role.
